The Kanoo Group wins Appreciation Award from Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre



Dubai, UAE – In celebration for the 20th Anniversary of the Rashid PaediatricTherapy Centre, officials and representatives of reputable companies including The Kanoo Group gathered for an awards ceremony at Culture and Science Theatre - Al Mamzar, Dubai on 30th April 2014.

Awards were given to selected donors who support the centre’s program in educating children with special needs - with conditions such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and autism.

Mr. Fahad Kanoo, Executive Director-UAE received the appreciation award from Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre on behalf of The Kanoo Group.

The honour underlines the commitment and thought leadership of The Kanoo Group in various CSR initiatives and practices that bring positive impact to society and promote the spirit of charity among people and organisations.

Ms. Mariam Othman, general manager of the school highlighted the achievements of the centre for the past 20 years and the importance of corporate support for children still on waiting list, with families who rely on fees (Dhs 29,000 per year) to cover the cost for their education.

She also encourages awareness of special needs in the community and what the centre is all about. She added that the school had developed significantly over 8 years since she was teaching there through the success of its programs. The centre was inaugurated in 1994.

During the event, the audience was entertained with performances of students with special needs which shows the world that their situation does not limit their potentials and skills; that only needs to be developed. 

In addition, the centre also hosted the Chinese Dreams group for a stage drama which similarly represented members with special needs.

The Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre aims to ensure that international standards of excellence in education and therapy are maintained at every level.

The Kanoo Group receives Beit Al Khair Society Award


Dubai, UAE: On behalf of The Kanoo Group, Mr. Fahad Kanoo (Executive Director-UAE) received an appreciation certificate from Mr. Abdeen Taher Al Awadi, General Manager of Beit Al Khair Society in recognition for the valuable aid and contributions of The Kanoo Group to the association. The awarding ceremony was held on 4th May 2014 at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City Hotel, UAE.
 
Since its inception, Beit Al Khair Society endeavored to extend a helping hand to needy families and deserving segments through a package of projects and schemes to serve the poor, the destitute, the widows, the divorcees, the low-income, the patients, the families of prison inmates, the victims of disasters, the defaulters, the insolvents, the debtors, people of special needs, the orphans and many categories proved by the social studies to be eligible for assistance.

The Kanoo Group believes and supports the works of the organization and serves a parallel commitment in promoting the value of charitable and humanitarian endeavors.

The Kanoo Group attends Sightsavers event as charity supporter



 
Abu Dhabi, UAE: Representatives from ‘The Kanoo Group’ together with local and international charitable and humanitarian institutions attended the UAE Conference on Saving Sight as partners and supporters for Sightsavers, held on 30th April 2014 at Emirates Palace - Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Sightsavers International is a group of organisations working with partners to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people in those living in poverty in some of the world's poorest countries.

His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, President of Sightsavers UAE, and Patron of ‘The UAE Conference on Saving Sight 2014’ delivered his opening speech and paid tribute to Sightsavers International for helping cure millions of eye patients in the world in the presence of HRH Princess Alexandra, President of Sightsavers and Sir John Major, former UK prime minister and Chairman of Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.

HRH Princess Alexandra and Sir John Major also addressed the conference.

The Marketing team of The Kanoo Group led by Ali Islim (Manager), together with Victor Maasilamani, Michelle Laylo and Sundar Liwang attended to conference on behalf of The Kanoo Group.

The organizers of the event, managed by Mr. Abdulla Al Nuaimi, Director General of Sightsavers Middle East provided exhibition stands for sponsors and supporters as part of networking opportunity.  The Marketing team wore uniform caps and shirts and displayed banners/brochures for branding of The Kanoo Group.

HRH Princess Alexandra, the Hon Lady Ogilvy KG GCVO visited The Kanoo Group stand, shook hands with the entire team and personally thanked The Kanoo Group for the valuable contribution for Sightsavers charity. Dr. Ivo Kocur, an expert on public eye health from World Health Organization also visited the stand and asked about the general profile of the group and its philanthropic works. Other organizations and prominent guests also came by and asked for company brochure.

With known matchless hospitality, HH Sheikh Nahyan invited all conference participants (more than 60 representatives) for a banquet meal personally hosted by His Highness after the networking event and opening ceremony, with the hotel’s pick-up and drop-off transfers.

The conference resumed in the afternoon with various Sight-Saving agenda delivered by renowned speakers: Dr. Ivo Kocur, “Towards universal eye health – a new global effort of WHO member states”; Dr. Caroline Harper (Chief Executive of Sightsavers), “Major challenges in fighting avoidable blindness”; Mr. Simeon Bush (Director of Neglected Tropical Diseases, Sightsavers), “The blinding neglected by tropical diseases”; Dr. Kamal Binnawi (Ministry of Health, Sudan), “Overview of eye care in Sudan”. This session was moderated by Mr. Abdulla Al-Nuaimi.

Professor Bon Bundy (World Bank) moderated the second session with key Speakers: Dr. Abdulredha Bahman (Kuwait Fund for Development) and Mr. Ibrahim Al Sugair (Saudi Fund for Development), “The role of international donors; achievements”.

The closing remarks of Dr. Harper concluded with a bright vision of Sightsavers and its sustained advocacy to support avoidable blindness programmes – particularly trachoma, river blindness and cataract.
